Firm Overview
ATTORNEYS WHO FOCUS ON ONE AREA OF THE LAW
Morgan Law Firm handles several areas of the law. However, our Attorneys do not dabble in several different areas of the law from one day to the next. Instead, they dedicate all of their time and attention each day to just focusing on handling one type of law. For example, if you have a family law case, you will have an experienced family law attorney who handles family law cases every day.
The same applies for Criminal Law/DUI (driving under the influence, domestic violence, violation of probation, murder, manslaughter) and Personal Injury Law (traffic accidents, dog bites, slip and fall). This gives our attorneys an overwhelming amount of experience and complete familiarity in their specific area of law. It also allows them to gain an in-depth understanding of the current laws and the ability to keep up with any new legal updates.
Home Court Advantage
We believe in a Home Court Advantage. What we mean is that our attorneys only appear in Ventura courtrooms. By doing this, our attorneys appear in front of the same judges day in and day out. We believe that this gives our attorneys complete familiarity and personal knowledge of the judges and their opinions, tendencies, philosophies, personalities, etc., since they will be the ones making our/your case decisions.
At the same time, our attorneys get to know the judicial assistants, court clerks, court mediators, opposing attorneys, district attorneys, and those involved in the Ventura Court system, which is where our clients’ cases will be handled.
COLLABORATIVE/TEAM APPROACH
Morgan Law Firm takes a collaborative/team approach to handling our cases, without increasing the cost to the client. In other words, you are hiring a law firm, not a sole practitioner (one attorney). Your case will be handled by a lead Attorney and a lead Paralegal, who will be primarily responsible for the daily management and handling of your case. However, additional attorneys and paralegals will be working together and assisting them. You will also have a Client Relations specialist and an assistant available to you to ensure that you have the needed communication with your attorney and paralegal and that you are updated and receive copies of all related documents. And, as the owner of the firm, I will always be accessible to you as well.
The team will have frequent status meetings where our attorneys, paralegals, relevant staff members, and I meet to discuss a client’s case. (We do not bill the client for these meetings). This provides us with the opportunity to engage in round table discussions and share ideas back and forth for strategizing and case planning. The objective is to have more than one legal mind thinking of ideas and considering multiple options before arriving at the best way to handle a client’s situation or case.
It is our strong belief that every client needs a fully staffed law firm to support them and the unique issues that are inherent in every case. A client using a sole practitioner attorney must rely on one person who may be stretched out between multiple clients and does not have the individual time or support staff to dedicate the amount of time needed. Also, the client will not have anyone available when the sole attorney is away on vacation, or out with an illness or extended leave. This risk of attorney absence is especially noticeable in family law cases since there is always the possibility for an Ex Parte/emergency court appearance or an urgent situation to develop for the client who may be left with no one to appear at an emergency court hearing or to contact for immediate guidance.
PRACTICE AREA CROSSOVER
Many cases involve overlapping areas of the law. As an example, we often see family law clients suddenly being accused of domestic violence, child abuse, violations of restraining orders, or criminal threats, any of which can lead to criminal prosecution. This creates the need for a criminal defense lawyer. Likewise, while our criminal defense attorney is defending a client against pending criminal charges such as a domestic violence allegation, it is not uncommon for the accuser to file for divorce or child custody. This creates the need for a family law attorney.
In these circumstances, our family law and criminal defense lawyers who are in the same office will work together to represent the client’s best interests and make sure that neither component of your case is impeded by the other.
Criminal charges related to any type of domestic violence will not only have the potential for punishment of jail time, probation, fines, and restitution, but will have severe adverse consequences on a family law case, particularly in relation to child custody and visitation and spousal support.
GENDER NEUTRAL
Morgan Law Firm is gender neutral. In other words, our firm does not prefer clients based on the fact they are a male or a female. Our perspective is that we owe an equal duty and obligation to all of our clients. We will use our experience and best efforts to zealously represent all of our clients with the same intensity.
EQUALITY
Just like our perspective on gender, we do not have any bias or prejudice towards a client based on race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other basis. Again, we owe an equal duty and obligation to all of our clients. We will use our experience and best efforts to zealously represent all of our clients with the same intensity.
